Hamlet was bonkers, that’s just the way it is – the ghost was a manifestation of his insanity. It came from his mind, which I’m sure was pure Hell for him.
Rusty gave a good answer. I think Hamlet was grieving for his murdered father and probably also for his lost birth right. His mind, seeking reason for his bad luck turned to revenge against the new king.
But it is like the Chinese say, When seeking revenge, dig two graves, o well, in Hamlet’s case three or four….lol
There is a line in Verdi’s Macbeth, something like,”These bloody thoughts, from where do they come?”. So some of the answer is kind of missing I think, for Hamlet, Macbeth and, I guess, all of us.
